After completing her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock and the École Supérieure d’Art Dramatique in Paris, Josephine Thiesen began working internationally across film, television, and theatre. She performs fluently in German, English, Italian, French and Spanish.

In 2024, she gained international recognition for her portrayal of Princess Marie Charlotte in the Netflix series “The Empress.” In 2026 she is going to appear in the German Netflix series “Die Falle,” directed by Isabel Kleefeld, as well as in international productions, including the feature film “Roma Elastica” by Bertrand Mandico, which premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, and “Cry to Heaven,” directed by Tom Ford (scheduled for release in 2027).

Alongside her screen work, she has maintained a strong presence in theatre. Since 2023, she has been a resident actress at Pfalzbau Bühne Ludwigshafen, where she has performed leading roles in productions such as “Kaffeehaus” by Carlo Goldoni and “Measure for Measure” by William Shakespeare. In 2026, she will appear in the new production “Prinzessinendramen” by Elfriede Jelinek.

In 2019, she co-founded the international music theatre collective SONDER Ensemble, with which she regularly performs as an actress and performer. In recent years, the ensemble has participated in major festivals including Kissinger Sommer and the Bologna Festival, performing on renowned stages such as the Berliner Philharmonie and the Kenzo Towers in Bologna. In 2025, SONDER Ensemble was awarded the international Köster Prize in the field of music theatre at the Realtime Festival für Neue Musik Bremen.
