NICO SCHRENK
CINEMATOGRAPHER
Even back in school, Nico Schrenk was making short films, gaining extensive experience behind the camera, which eventually led him to pursue a career in cinematography. Originally from Austria, he moved to Germany to study cinematography at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. During his studies he paired up with many different directors and shot a wide range of short films and other narrative formats. Today, he works between narrative films and commercial projects.
His short film “Borzaya” got shortlisted for the 2022 Student Academy Awards. He was awarded with the German Cinematography Award (Deutscher Kamerapreis) for his short film “Everybody Leaves in the End”.
His graduation film “Skin on Skin” by Simon Schneckenburger screened at over 80 festivals around the world and won over 40 awards, including the Future Frames section at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. He was awarded with the Michael-Ballhaus-Prize for “Skin on Skin” at First Steps where the film was also honoured in two more categories. Nico Schrenk received the Golden Tadpole at Camerimage in 2025 for his work on “Skin on Skin”.
