YUNUS ROY IMER

CINEMATOGRAPHER

Yunus Roy Imer, born in Zurich, Switzerland, is a Berlin and London based, internationally working and award-winning cinematographer.

"The Outrun" by Nora Fingscheidt, starring Saoirse Ronan, premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and celebrated its European premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival 2024. The film earned nine BIFA nominations (British Independent Film Awards), including one for Roy for Best Cinematography.

His camera work for "99 Moons" (directed by Jan Gassmann) brought him a nomination for the Swiss Film Award for Best Cinematography in 2023. The film had its world premiere in Cannes in the L'ACID section.

His debut film "System Crasher" (directed by Nora Fingscheidt) won a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and was selected as a German Oscar nominee, won eight Lolas and screened at the Cameraimage Festival in the Cinematographer's Debut Competition. For the documentary "Space Dogs" (directed by Elsa Kremser & Levin Peter), which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and toured festivals worldwide, Roy received the Diagonale's "Best Cinematography Award for Documentaries."

His other works include "Black Night" (directed by Özcan Alper), „The Poet's Wife" (directed by Helke Misselwitz) and "Without this World" (directed by Nora Fingscheidt), for which Roy was nominated for the German Camera Award in 2018.

In post-production are "Al Baseer" (directed by Ali Al-Fatlawi), a Swiss-Iraqi co-production set in the southern marshes of Iraq, and "Die schönste Bescherung" by Karin Heberlein, a German Christmas TV film.

Yunus Roy Imer is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents and Sarajevo Talents. He speaks German, English, Turkish and French fluently.

A HAPPY FAMILY

Yunus Roy Imer's new project “A Happy Family,” a feature film directed by Jan-Eric Mack, produced by C-FILMS in co-production with Swiss Radio and Television
and distributed by DCM Film, is currently in postproduction and planned for the 4th quarter 2026.

“Despite juggling two jobs, Niki is always short of money and her life is under constant supervision by the social services. When her two children accidentally set the kitchen on fire, they are placed in the care of a foster family. Despite a restraining order, Niki finds them at the other end of Switzerland. With a new identity, she secretly participates in her children’s lives. When Niki is on the verge of being exposed, their only option is to flee.”

AL BASEER

"Al Baseer“ is currently in postproduction. The project was filmed in southern Iraq and tells the story of a blind ferryman falling in love.
