ISABELL SUBA
DIRECTOR
Isabell Šuba is a German Slovak director and screenwriter. She studied directing at the Film University Babelsberg and was a scholarship holder of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. She gained recognition with the award-winning mockumentary “Men Show Films & Women Show Their Breasts” (Max Ophüls Prize) and made her mainstream theatrical debut with the successful relaunch of “Hanni & Nanni”. She later directed several crime formats and developed the popular series “Barcelona Crime” starring Clemens Schick.
She achieved international success with the Netflix series “King of Stonks” (Grimme Award, German Television Award, Jupiter Award) and went on to direct the historical series “King of Palma,” positioning contemporary history between action and pop culture. Her work often combines satire, genre, and emotional storytelling. With “#heuldoch,” she developed a humorous response to the #MeToo discourse. Her “Tatort: Showtime” once again blends crime and comedy, starring Max Giermann. Most recently, she directed the conspiracy theory comedy “The Holy Shit” and completed the documentary feature “In Mothers’ Line”. She is the founder of the mentoring program Into the Wild, supporting emerging filmmakers.
Isabell Šuba is represented by Carole Sonderegger.
